Parent (of Teens) Group

Parent Group on Thursdays at 1 PM.

After working with teens for the past 20 years, I know how difficult it can be to parent teens who are struggling with mood, emotional and behavioral problems. Parents doing this job need all the support, tools, and knowledge that they can get. I have seen over the years how parents often feel alone in this, since it can be hard to talk to other parents who can't relate. Being in a group with other parents navigating similar experiences can be healing and helpful. Knowing that our kids are struggling is heartbreaking and often anxiety provoking, especially when there is only so much we can do to help. We can't take their pain away, but there are things parents can do to make things better. There are research-supported ways of communicating and connecting with our teens that can help make their struggles feel lighter, and increase understanding of what is going on inside your teen.

Some of the things we will cover are:

  • Learn the most effective ways to communicate with your teen,

  • Understand the teen brain, and the mood, behavior and emotion challenges involved,

  • Learn specific and tangible strategies to build a positive relationship and connection with your teen,

  • Learn about Depression, Anxiety and what causes intense emotions in your teen, and

  • Understand how you can have more influence in your teen's life, and how you can most effectively support them, and

  • Learn skills and strategies to keep yourself emotionally regulated in the midst of their mood and emotional struggles

The Parent Group will meet at my office at 8500 N Mopac, Suite 402. The cost of the group is $50 per session.
